Shoujoboy's Afro Samurai Tv Review

Rated: 6

Afro is an unfortunate show. The whole premise of a samurai anime based on a hip-hop theme (and if you say Samurai Champloo I will stab you) is one that is just overall cool. Not only that but the prospect of Sam Jackson as an anime voice actor is just too cool to not watch. But you end up with a weak story that relies on one-liners and over the top violence that simply leads you to the conclusion you expect after watching the show for maybe 3 minutes. There's nothing wrong with a predictable conclusion just not one that you can predict from the very beginning.

There are those who will love this show and tell their friends of it's sheer awesomeness. It has crazy violence, breasts on occasion, a bad-assed main character and lots and lots of Sam Jackson saying mother f*%ker.

Violence, blood, and revenge driven- this anime has all of the things that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Interesting plot, badass characters- awesome twists, and AFROS. The ending was slightly predictable, but the fights along the way were spectacular and over the top (in the best way possible). Not to mention that Samuel L. Jackson is one of the main voices; that alone made this appealing and 15x more epic, and the main character's friend that travels with him is and excellent comic relief. There's a couple small twists, some that are contrived, others that genuinely catch you by surprise, but overall, this is a good anime to check out.

I like this anime. It is very bloody (think Elven Lied) so be prepared if that is not your thing. But the story of the journey for Afro is interesting. The second movie is not as good as the first IMO, but still is a very good series overall.

On the dark path of swordsmanship in a "Futuristic" yet Feudal Japan, it is said that the one who becomes No.1 will rule the world. But the only rule in this world is that only the No. 2 is allowed to fight the No. 1. The No. 2, the Afro Samurai, travels the road looking for revenge on the man who murdered his father in front of him when he was just a boy, a three-armed gunman who is the lord of the dark swordsman's road and the current No. 1.

NIce one, but... I don't really like this one. Samurais and katanas don't really fit with Negroes... similar try was Samurai Champloo, where japanese Edo era was a little mixed with hip hop. I like it much more than Afro though (maybe cause of Mugen and Kazuya Nakai). So generally don't like the idea of that hybrid. But not only that. The plot itself wasn't a masterpiece too. However I like one idea here (spoiler, lookout!): that he had an imaginary friend. Don't say its a bad show, just not hiting my type.

Great action and interesting plot. Awesome to see a black samurai in the anime world. ^^ (I'm Black myself)
Modern-day/futuristic technology and other inventions combined with ancient Japanese history and a different samurai as the main character makes it unique from other samurai anime I had ever seen. I like it.
