Afro is an unfortunate show. The whole premise of a samurai anime based on a hip-hop theme (and if you say Samurai Champloo I will stab you) is one that is just overall cool. Not only that but the prospect of Sam Jackson as an anime voice actor is just too cool to not watch. But you end up with a weak story that relies on one-liners and over the top violence that simply leads you to the conclusion you expect after watching the show for maybe 3 minutes. There's nothing wrong with a predictable conclusion just not one that you can predict from the very beginning.
There are those who will love this show and tell their friends of it's sheer awesomeness. It has crazy violence, breasts on occasion, a bad-assed main character and lots and lots of Sam Jackson saying mother f*%ker.

On the dark path of swordsmanship in a "Futuristic" yet Feudal Japan, it is said that the one who becomes No.1 will rule the world. But the only rule in this world is that only the No. 2 is allowed to fight the No. 1. The No. 2, the Afro Samurai, travels the road looking for revenge on the man who murdered his father in front of him when he was just a boy, a three-armed gunman who is the lord of the dark swordsman's road and the current No. 1.
Violence, blood, and revenge driven- this anime has all of the things that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Interesting plot, badass characters- awesome twists, and AFROS. The ending was slightly predictable, but the fights along the way were spectacular and over the top (in the best way possible). Not to mention that Samuel L. Jackson is one of the main voices; that alone made this appealing and 15x more epic, and the main character's friend that travels with him is and excellent comic relief. There's a couple small twists, some that are contrived, others that genuinely catch you by surprise, but overall, this is a good anime to check out.
Good series. I enjoyed it. Pitty about the very few episodes but overall it I enjoyed it.
I wouldn't mind watching a continuation of this anime.
Afro Samurai has a hip-hop theme similiar to Samurai Champloo. If you enjoyed Samurai Champloo then I sure that
you'd enjoy watching Afro Samurai.
I like this anime. It is very bloody (think Elven Lied) so be prepared if that is not your thing. But the story of the journey for Afro is interesting. The second movie is not as good as the first IMO, but still is a very good series overall.
NIce one, but... I don't really like this one. Samurais and katanas don't really fit with Negroes... similar try was Samurai Champloo, where japanese Edo era was a little mixed with hip hop. I like it much more than Afro though (maybe cause of Mugen and Kazuya Nakai). So generally don't like the idea of that hybrid. But not only that. The plot itself wasn't a masterpiece too. However I like one idea here (spoiler, lookout!): that he had an imaginary friend. Don't say its a bad show, just not hiting my type.
Great action and interesting plot. Awesome to see a black samurai in the anime world. ^^ (I'm Black myself)
Modern-day/futuristic technology and other inventions combined with ancient Japanese history and a different samurai as
the main character makes it unique from other samurai anime I had ever seen. I like it.
I was hesitant at first, but then I was just sucked in for the ride. I couldn't believe how nicely this flowed. I was skittish at first, but I was quite impressed as to how it didn't seem like you were really watching an anime with this sort of unique style. I also didn't realize that I was going to pretty much wind up buying it and all it took was just a good friend telling me I should check it out. Samuel L. Jackson did an excellent job in it that's for sure. but there again I am a big time fan of his :D
Afro Samurai creates a unique atmosphere while you watch it. The first season (if you can call it like that) consists
only of 5 episodes but still is captivating.
I personally haven't watched Afro Samurai Resurrection yet but I hope it's gonna be as good as the original
Afro Samurai, or even better.
A japanese stories created by another country?
Look!, the result : bad story, didnt have the art & beauty of samurai, didnt have any samurai spirit, didnt have any
samurai in they heart, only know what is heartless in creators thought.
lol you cant beat samurai x (Rurouni Kenshin).
char = oh new char ... good.
style = standard.
motion = standard.
fx = standard.
environment = good.
color = very pooor
story = awesome bad, bored (i only capable to watch it until 3 ep-s & the rest i only scrub it).
I DIDNT INTERESTED FOR WATCHING AGAIN.
I DIDNT INTERESTED TO BUY THE ORIGINAL.
I DIDNT WANT YOU WATCH THIS, IT WILL KILL YOU.
Not as good as I was hoping. Only seems to be 3 colors, red, varying shades of gray, and varying shades of diluted
brown, so the picture aspect of it is pretty piss poor. Apparently I don't understand Ghetto, as I often
don't understand what they are saying, or I have to replay it over and over, which has caused me to stop caring if
I missed what someone had said, and hope I don't miss part of the plot. Also the sound was not equalized or volume
leveled; so with the volume set such that the talking was audible, the sound effects would shake my seat (thank you
subwoofer, I love you too), and conversely, when the volume was set such that I wasn't waking up the whole
apartment complex with the sound effects, the talking wasn't audible. Although I suppose they did that on purpose
because the voice actor for the white haired sidekick that never stops talking, has a really annoying voice. Plot is
half baked and predicable; revenge, blood, meaningless fights and killing, lop a few heads in half, drink some lemonade,
and get some more revenge, oh, and trade a headband every once in a while with a dead man. Action scenes are the only
thing this anime does well. plot = 5 picture quality = 4 video/action quality = 8 sound = 2 total = 4.75
in all I just started watching it for the action and it suddenly became watchable (lowering your standards/expectations,
and in this case the volume as well, does amazing things)
i finished the last chapter of this amazing series... though is too gory for my taste i think the animation, the drawings and even the characters are absolutely cool... the plot, the story and the development are hanging hand in hand as it should be in a short series as this... very enjoyable... like it a lot.
Blood, trash, Mad and stylish Gonzo project called Afro Samurai.
Unique! It is difficult to find the right words to describe.
This is a must see and draw their own conclusions - like it or not.
I liked so MUCH! But it will not leave indifferent for sure.
