"Angel Heart" is the sequel to City Hunter, but it upset fans of Kaori and
Ryo so much that the author eventually called it an alternate universe story.
The story follows Shanin
(or Xiang Ying), a young female assassin whose code name is "Glass Heart." She tries to kill herself in the beginning of
the story, but fails. Instead, she receives a new heart: Kaori's heart. Kaori, who was preparing for her wedding with
Ryo, was killed by a truck as she was saving a young girl. Through Kaori's heart, Shanin can hear hear and see Kaori.
Shanin tracks down Ryo, who adopts her as his daughter. Entering into this are other assassins from Shanin and Ryo's
pasts.

A young Taiwanese assassin codenamed "Glass Heart" committed suicide by jumping off a building, and her heart was pierced by metal fence. Miraculously, her life was saved by heart transplantation. During her recovery she began to experience strange dreams, which lead her to Japan looking for the donor of her heart, who happens to be Kaori Makimura, former partner of City Hunter Ryo Saeba.
