Ayumi Hamasaki J-Pop Idol
Tagged under Waifu, Japanese Entertainers.
Ayumi Hamasaki is a Japanese singer-songwriter, model, and actress. Her image is based on individualism, on not being
just a "product" meant to be sold. Coupled with the fact that she produces her own music and writes her own lyrics, this
has lead to her notable success in Asia, her status as one of the best selling artists in Japan, and the nickname
"Empress of J-pop".
Ayumi debuted in 1998 with the hit single "Poker Face". Her following albums enjoyed
the same popularity, with her first compilation album, "A Best", selling over four million copies (and becoming her
best-selling album to date). She is also considered a fashion trendsetter due to her ever-changing image (which brought
on comparisons to Madonna), leading other countries in Asia to adopt the fashion trends kickstarted by her. In 2002,
Ayumi started focusing more on the Asian markets outside of Japan, as the increase in piracy lead to a noticeable drop
in her album sales.
