Like the name suggests, the series can essentially be thought of as a sports anime, but it's not entirely about kendo, just about five high schoolgirls who have fun with the sport while facing various slice of life ordeals. Kendo does play a large role here with the plot never leaves the kendo field. Overall, Bamboo Blade is not only about hilariousness, but it's also about team membership, friendship and sportsmanship. It shows the significance of kendo, which could be forgotten, this may, in fact, be one of the series' greatest strengths: for some, kendo is a means to exercise violence in an acceptable manner, while for others the attraction is the fulfillment of mastering a precision discipline or appreciating true talent in action.

A nice story about an all-girls Kendo team that strives to be the very best following a Kendo teacher that has food and
his bills more on his mind than Kendo. A fun story with some great and very unique each in their own way characters and
a simple to follow plot that can really suck you in. The ending falls a little flat, at least to me, but it was still a
very good story.
Pretty cute series! As a former kendoka, this story meant a lot, 'cause I saw many of my own fears and impressions reflected on those scenes. It's not the epitome of anything, but it's very good: the plot, the characters, the comedy, the special situations...Bottomline, t's endearing. And, of course, if you practice Kendo, this is a must-watch!
Toraji Ishida is a high school kendo teacher. His friend and fellow kendo teacher makes him a bet: if Ishida can assemble a girls' kendo team that can defeat his girls' team in a practice match, he'll treat Ishida to free meals at his father's sushi restaurant for a whole year. Now Ishida must find five girls to join the team.
A light-hearted, slice-of-life story about a girls' kendo team. 5 girls assembled in order to win a bet, each with their crazy antics. I enjoyed this series because it wasn't hard to follow, and the girls were really funny, especially Kirino and her obsessions, the overly emotive Sayako and Miya-Miya with her black aura.
You don't have to be a master of Kendo to like this anime! It has its own unique morals and is perfect for a good laugh. Comedic moments seem to roll around in this anime, however, it DOES have its serious moments too!
