Chiaroscuro Theme
Tagged under Artistic Styles.
Chiaroscuro is a painting technique through which a three-dimensional effect is achieved by employing strong contrast
between light and dark areas of an image. The background is often dark, and the few visible details are usually behind
the subject and lit by the same light source.
Caravaggio is among the most famous artists who employed this
technique.
An example of what is and is not chiaroscuro: in this image, the left shot of Rei, half-covered in shadow, fits under
this tag; the right cowboy shot of her doesn't.
