Darker than Black Series
Ten years ago, in America, the sky started raining stars, and a giant impenetrable barrier known as the Hell's Gate
emerged. Contractors, people that wield paranormal powers at the cost of their own rationality have also appeared at the
same time.
Hei is one of the most powerful contractors. He works for one of the many rival agencies that are
trying to discover the truth behind the Gate.

Talk about a great show! Really loved the idea behind it and enjoyed watching it. I do think it should have only been one season though. Season 2 was okay, but it just really wasn't the same, but I guess that is to be expected to a degree. Either way I would love to add this to my collection. I highly recommend this anime to anyone if they want a good watch.
A really exciting anime.I love the main character. I want to know the mysteries it holds. This anime have good
characters, and good openings and endings.
(Adventure, Drama, mystery, Sci-Fi, Supernatural)
I have heard that this anime is awesome, and the truth is.. this anime is more than awesome, I love hie.. he is a mysterious, cool, and great character.. The story of darker than black is also great, even the first episode already make you feel like that this anime is great :)
If I have to say something about this anime I'd say , "WOW!" LEE is just awesome and yen she's just
superb, with her melancholic expression and the part when she tries to smile with the help of her fingers was really
cute. I also like ember, she's mysterious and cheerful.
Overall the anime rocks.
I finished watching this anime but there's something always stops me I'm anxious to see all chapters. I love the main character. I want to know the mysteries it holds. This anime have good characters, and good openings and endings.
Ah, the age old question; what to do when certain people suddenly begin manifesting mysterious superpowers. Darker than BLACK responds with a classic solution found in series ranging from Witch Hunter Robin to X-Men: Form secret organizations to monitor and control these people. However, despite the similar theme, this show is anything but derivative.
In the beginning of the series, the premise of the show is somewhat vague as little is known about where the powers of the contractors come from, or how they are related to the gates. As the series progresses more information is inevitably revealed, creating good plot exposition and allowing the story to move at a decent pace and keep each episode interesting. Where this series really shines however, is the characters.
Hei is portrayed brilliantly, having a rather comicbook superhero-like persona but adding a unique spin to it. His motives are not initially apparent, nor is his true relationship with the syndicate to which he belongs. Also, while contractors are known to be emotionless and purely rational, Hei somehow manages to retain his humanity, an anomaly which many of his acquaintances and opponents comment on. The true reason for this, as well as the origin of his powers remains hidden until the end of the series.
Beautiful openings and music, nice characters, interesting plot surrounded by mistery. The idea of a remuneration to be
paid in order to use super powers is very original and all the background of the story is completely new. The second
season was unnecessary, according to me, I don't like the turn the story takes. They could have shown more clearly
and in detail the end of the first season without going on in more complicated developments. Loved Hei and his double
personality.
SHINODA CHIAKI: "Are you looking at the stars? In the middle of the city? Even though the only stars you can see
from here are fake?"
Too bad, i first watched the second season. It was a mistake on my part tho.
It was awesome. It felt like Cowboy Bebop, but it was unique in its own. Although I haven't watched the first
season, watching this left me with a thousand questions in mind asking what the true nature of Contractors and Dolls
were. And what the hell were the Gates.
A good watch, nevertheless.
Darker than Black is one of my favorites series : the plot is complicated and kind of mysterious, and relies both on action sequences and on dialogues. I loved the first season, but the second one left me wanting for more... and I love the four OAVs because they gave me exactly what I was expecting from a second season, as well as what happened between the two seasons.
Excellent: All I can say is that I Loved it ! It was dark, and at times had that little element of humor to it. Sometimes between Hei's alter ego he would wind up in some weird situations, and all while trying to keep his real identity a total secret except for his closest companions. Hei was one of those really likable characters, whether it was his down to business persona or his kind of clueless persona.
it was fun to watch series, it might seem confusing in the start but then everything works and makes itself clear.
i would have given it a 10 but i deducted a point for the 'dingy dongy' woman in the end.
I saw only the first season, I really like main character and his "dual personality")) At first I was pretty hard to understand the course of events because of obscure terminology, I figured outin the process. But I was disappointed how the story ended for the majority of characters
I liked this anime and its spinoff. My oponion hasn't changed about Hei. He is the only contracter than doesn't have a price. It was amazing that everything that happen to Hei and Yin was caused by Amber. Hei and Yin seem more like a couple than partners... Don't let Misaki Kirihara hear that
first season of the series is excellent with unpredictable, interesting plot and good ending. great character design and development. character deaths very touching.
second season is disappointing, plot was unpredictable but uninteresting. i was forcing myself to watch it just to know the ending. character design was still interesting, but their development was slow. some character deaths are moving.
gaiden season was quite good, not as good as S1 but not bad as S2. storyline was set after S1 but before S2, so the ending is known. however, the plot was still unpredictable.
overall, would recommend watching Season 1 (and maybe the Gaiden). Watch Season 2 at your own risk.
Confusing at first, but I really ike Hei's dubble face (for common people he is a normal student with sense of humor, even clumsy sometimes and personally he is a cold heartred contractor). Yin is admirable and Mao is cool^_^ That all contractors thing is really nice invented. People with specific superpowers, who must fullfill their contract with a payment. For example, some have too smoke, some have to kiss other people, some will get younger/older cause using their power and some could even need to drink children's blood... It's interesting. The second season was... wierd, but nice too.
