The Diclonius, a mutated homo sapien that is said to be selected by God and will eventually become the destruction of mankind, possesses two horns in their heads, and has a "sixth sense" which gives it telekinetic abilities. Due to this dangerous power, they have been captured and isolated in laboratories by the government. Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to break free of her confines and brutally murder most of the guards in the laboratory, only to get shot in the head as she makes her escape. She survives and manages to drift along to a beach, where two teenagers named Kouta and Yuka discovers her. Having lost her memories, she was named after the only thing that she can now say, "Nyuu," and the two allow her to stay at Kouta's home. However, it appears that the evil "Lucy" is not dead just yet...

At the end I want to talk about presentation itself. Yeah, this anime has something that mostly don't have. Many animes are emotional, warm, sad, but this one will leave you with a main question after you finish watching it. You will begin to understand some things, to even appreciate life more. To appreciate people around you, those that are different and pushed from the society. You will begin to understand that they are even more special. Much what we don't know is shown in this anime. Many of people bad habits are displayed as well. At first this may look like an anime just meant to be filled with violence, nudity and gore, but actually that's not true. It is meant to be different and to show the true message that it holds.

I got to know about this anime because I heard and fell in love with the beautiful Latin song on Youtube.
Then I watched another video about the top ten craziest way to die in anime and "vector death" from Elfen Lied
was on the list. The way the pink-haired, expressionless girl killed people really was crazy and I started watching the
anime myself. I did not regret it.
In the first five minutes, the body count is up to 19 and the naked girl basically rips them apart limb from limb and
blood splashes everywhere. Compared to this, Hellsing is like Teletubbies. It's the most messed up thing I've ever
seen.
But Elfen Lied is not just about killing and trashing human bodies. Lucy/Nyu is a pitiful character and her fate is
extremely tragic. The last few episodes when her past and her twisted relationship with Kouta are finally unravelled, I
bawled my heart out. The storytelling is very powerful and moving.
The only thing I have to complain about is the rough artwork. Usually I find this very distracting and disappointing but
somehow with Elfen Lied, I can forgive this.
A very good and dark anime, which holds many secrets. It also holds many gore moments, so it might not be for everyone, but I am sure that many people will enjoy them. If you are interested more, I have a full review written here.
The anime has 13 episodes plus a bonus one. But the bonus one is not included on some editions of the DVDs. Each DVD holds three episodes, while the first volume holds four. Keep in mind that the first one is almost out of print everywhere so it gets more and more expensive.

Finally done with this!
I really love this series, even thou the ending for the anime are different from the manga (don't know if they're gonna
make the second season), I still love it wholeheartedly. It's hard to hate the Diclonius even thou they have killed so
many people, each one of them have a reason why they acted that way.
The reason why I kept on watching this series is because I wanted to see the end for the three main Diclonius,
Lucy/Nyuu, Nana and Mariko, I wanted to see what happened to them, it's intriguing yet saddening. I even cry at some of
the episodes, it just cruelly touch my heart. T^T Using 'Lilium' as the bg music for sad scene is too much for me to
handle.
Got lots of nudity here and there and bear in mind it's not something you want to watch if you can't handle gore or
explicit images.
The story is quite interesting, unusual, artistic decision regarding "hands". Split personality of the
protagonist also attracting attention. But for me, there are too many bloody scenes in the anime (my eyes grew round on
the first five minutes)
I would not able to estimate low the soundtrack - this is one of the best OST that I've heard. He is melodic and
mysterious as an incantation, flowing like a stream and so sad. Singer's voice simply beyond praise. I also liked the
opening and ending play up paintings of Gustav Klimt
i really enjoied elfen lied because if its uneque way of looking at how just because of a few differences everyone looks at you differently i also found this series a good adventure and also a tuching story too i would reccamend this series (WARNING contains graphic content not suitable for yunger viewers)
