In the Disney adaptation (based on the story collected by Charles Perrault), she appears after Cinderella's evil
step-sisters destroy the dress that Cinderella was planning to wear at the ball. After consoling the heartbroken girl,
the Fairy gives her a new gown and a pair of glass slippers. She then transforms a nearby pumpkin into a carriage and
urges Cinderella to attend the ball but warns her to be back before midnight - the time when the magic would wear
off.
The Fairy Godmother also appears in the third Cinderella movie, "Cinderella III: A Twist In Time",
where the step-sisters and step-mother manage to steal her wand and use it to undo Cinderella's happiness.
The Fairy Godmother appears in Charles Perrault's version of the story; in the one collected by the brothers Grimm,
Cinderella receives her dress and slippers from a white bird that had been living in a tree planted by Cinderella
herself near her mother's grave.
