Honda Tohru is may be the unluckiest high school girl ever. Not only she had to face her mother's death alone, she now have to live alone and better still, has no place to live. Desperate, she tried to live in a small tent on a portion of seemingly un-owned land. However, bad luck was still on her side, as a landslide actually buried her new home and all her belongings. The Souma family, who was actually the owner of that piece of land discovered her and after listening to her story they kindly took her in and gave her a temporary place to stay in their house. Tohru, in turn, was expected to help the three Souma boys with their household chores such as cleaning, washing the laundry, and cooking. Tohru considered herself to be lucky to actually be allowed to stay in the same house as the 'prince' of her highschool.

It was all looking good til the time that one (un)fortunate incident revealed their true selves to the clueless and ever so dim-witted Tohru. Though shocked and surprised, Tohru decided to keep their secrets with her to her death. However, will the Souma family approved of an outsider knowing their deepest darkest secret? And how will this secret change Tohru's life? Was her meeting with the Soumas a fortunate encounter, or maybe it was the exact opposite?

Crash09dart's Fruits Basket Tv And Manga Review

Rated: 8

The use of the elements like transformations and legends is really cool, but what gave me a greater impact is the "bonds" and promises they hold for each other. The feelings they all keep inside. Also different character perspectives and attitudes like the almost-perfect character, the always-happy character, the uber-shy character and the klutzy main character, they all fit together, like a puzzle that's best when together. Also the inevitability of each characters being bound together.

Having all sorts and kinds of character is really good. The use of family problems and such, acceptance and rejections. reasoning and understanding of each characters.

Honestly, I love Fruits Basket to death and have since the manga was first on the shelves in my local Barnes and Noble bookstore. Every character has an honest and realistic story to them. My personal favorite characters were Tohru's momma and Uo. In the end, I wish the anime series was longer. The manga had a great ending, though I felt it was a tad rushed in comparison to all the building up the author did towards it, when I already figured it out at least 10 books before the end. Tohru is an ambient source of love and an adorable sort of stupidity that brings people together around her. Between Kyo and Yuki, I think they both needed Tohru more than anyone and it was hard to see her fall for one or the other, I think the author had the same problem, haha.

I HATE shoujou series with a passion as a general rule. Furuba is one of the exceedingly rare exceptions to that rule. The art style is simple, but eye-catching. The story was fresh and different from everything else out there, and actually educational with its little tidbits about the zodiac and what not. It's in places, serious in others, and there are parts (without revealing spoilers) that had me bawling. I love the characters, especially Kyou. Even the manliest of men will love this series. This is more about the manga than the anime (which I HAVE seen and DO own!), though, because the anime deviated like mad from the manga.

One of the first anime I ever watched, I'm very upset that they left out the horse and the rooster. They have everyone else but them! Not fair! My favorite characters are kyo and haru. I love the kitty and da cow. :3 OH! and Yuuki's brother, Mr. Snakey. ^.^

A great anime; I laughed, I lamented, and I rooted with the characters- and even though Tohru is such a Mary-Sue, you can't but love her.

There's only one thing I have a qualm with... IT'S NOT FINISHED. It just stopped. The manga is complete, but the anime is nowhere near finishing, and is not showing any signs of beginning to. It's a good anime, but if there was ever a bigger letdown, it was the sudden stop.

The plot of the story is something very memorable and original, and the characters are very interesting. One of the most intriguing characters of the manga/anime is Akito - the head of the Sohma house. Their motivation is unclear at first, and learning more about their character, as well as their deep rooted flaws was fantastic. Not to mention one of the biggest twists in the anime involves them - the anime would be great to watch, but the real gem is in the manga. Check it out, when you have the chance!

Ah, lovely anime, it's so funny, sweet and sad at the same time, it's as if 'life' is the very definition of this anime. Usually, I'm not a fan of heroin like Tohru, who's all sweet and frail, but surprisingly, I really love her for who she is.
The story are pretty sad, and the humor are there to ease our worries, in my opinion. XD The character design are a bit weird for me, since it's so unlike other shoujo character design, but I grew to like it, and I think Natsuki Takaya's drawing are beautiful.
Well, other than tha, the OST are great and I just love the melody, they're pretty nostalgic if you ask me. :D It goes well with the anime~
