It's is a pretty good anime, quite original for a fantasy series and I was surprised at the end the 4th episode with the feels that take place, really hard hitting and heartbreaking. The series kind of has AnoHana vibes in a way even though the main characters weren't childhood friends, but they have a pretty sweet bond as comrades and what happens at the end of the 4th episode in how it affected the group. When Mary comes into the group, I liked how they were able to heal each of their broken hearts by opening up to one another with time, growing stronger together and always having each others backs. I can't choose whose the best girl of the series, all three were really good characters in each of their own way and how they grew as characters. The OP song is quite amazing and has a nice beat to it.

I begin this anime without knowing anything about it except for the fact that it adapted a light novel. First thing first : it's TRULLY beautiful. The animation is great most of the time and the watercolor backgrounds are really breathtaking. That was one of the best point in this anime. The "slice of life" aspect is very interesting too but way too slow sometimes. As a result, the end of the anime felt rushed and the first episodes were boring at time. So boring that I read the light novel to know more about the Grimgar world. To me, the LN is better in many ways and I still don't understand why some major scenes were modified in the anime.
I like most of the characters except for Ranta. I couldn't stand him for the whole show. But these little things aside, it's a good anime. Except for the OVA which is just good enough for the trash bin.

The character design is really pretty. The music was nice. While the pacing was slow, it worked for this series, because it allowed time for the characters to develop in a natural kind of way. Though I do think this show could've gotten with a much better payoff if it was given 24 episodes instead of 12.
