This is completely unique with the type of sport used and a lot of humor and booom....a MUST WATCH. Personally I'm not into the real life boxing sport and so do other sports though, but you didn't have to like the real sport just to watch this, trust me~
I'm not into sports anime, however this is a strong exception. Hajime no Ippo is very enjoyable; the characters are beautifully fleshed out and likable and it smoothly transitions to moments of sidesplitting laughter to complete edge-of-your-seat moments. The action scenes are a blend of realism with some anime excesses (the good kind), which meshes together wonderfully in the ring. I can't even begin to explain how many times I held my breath during fight sequences- this show is just that good.
An anime that kept me up until almost 3:00am everyday (started watching around 11:00pm), it's the stereotype weak guy gets picked on, then he takes up boxing... but still the excitment and characters made this so good!
