I'm not into sports anime, however this is a strong exception. Hajime no Ippo is very enjoyable; the characters are beautifully fleshed out and likable and it smoothly transitions to moments of sidesplitting laughter to complete edge-of-your-seat moments. The action scenes are a blend of realism with some anime excesses (the good kind), which meshes together wonderfully in the ring. I can't even begin to explain how many times I held my breath during fight sequences- this show is just that good.
rennikun rated 9.25:An anime that kept me up until almost 3:00am everyday (started watching around 11:00pm), it's the stereotype weak guy gets picked on, then he takes up boxing... but still the excitment and characters made this so good!
