It's not really an historical anime, it's a parody of World War II with personified nations. If you don't know the story
of the war you won't understand well the events that, plus, are not in chronological order.
Despite the flaws in the plot, it's quite enjoyable. The story, after all, it's not the most important thing: this anime
is based on its humour and, indeed, it's funny to see all the stereotypes about countries in the world.
ROMANO: "Che palle! Don't play dumb with me, that's my brother's job!"
5 minute episodes of lolz and satire featuring anthropomorphic personifications of countries through out history. Quite a good lesson for European geography actually, I never knew where the Holy Roman Empire was, and Prussia. XD
LightFykki rated 7.50:This anime just didn't work with me because of the several things and also the lack of episodes. But after I do get back I think that I will find it more interesting. Don't like several introductions of fanservice and light yaoi elements, sometimes not understandable jokes, letters and texts written all over making it hard to focus on the show... but other than that it was a pretty good comedy~! If you are looking for short, relaxing ONA episodes, and if you are a girl next to that, then these ones are for you. If not... then you can try it still or something else.
SavingtheGeneration rated 9.50:This is probably one of the oddest shows you will ever see. I first watched it subbed a couple years back, and I didn't like it much. I don't know if it was the subbers or something, but I just hated the jokes. But when I found out that Funimation was dubbing it, I had to know who the cast was. XD I was almost correct in every assumption I made, which was awesome. I wasn't expecting Ian Sinclair to be Romano, but it was amazing! He did a really good job, and Romano is awesome to begin with. The jokes that Funimation put in were a lot more understandable, and I loved the accents in the cast. ^^ A great thing about this show is that even though it's 52 episodes, the actual episodes are about 5 minutes each. When I'm just sitting at home and doing stuff on the computer, I like to pop in Hetalia and just let it play while I multitask. This is a really great show, and I really like it.
fireflywishes rated 8.25:Love this show! It's so crack-tastic and (somewhat) informative! Italy makes me want to pinch his cheeks... Love the overall concept. I do wonder about the longevity of the anime as the antics can get a little annoying after awhile. I can see that this totally works as a comic though.
