Kiki's Delivery Service Series, OVA

Kiki is a 13-year-old witch-in-training, living in a village where her mother is
the resident herbalist. It's traditional for witches to live for a year alone when they reach 13. It is on the night of
her 13th birthday that Kiki takes off for the big city with her best friend, Jiji, a talkative black cat. Kiki settles
in Koriko, a beautiful city by the sea. After a hard start, mostly because of her own insecurity, Kiki finds friends and
a place to stay. But she has only one witch's skill: her ability to fly on a broom; so, in order to support herself, she
begins a delivery service.

Kiki's adventures (Kiki is a young witch facing her apprenticeship in a foreign city) are narrated in a pleasant
and light way, without any major events, dangerous situations or mysteries, as we are used to see everywhere; a very
simple and enjoyable story in which, for once, there isn't any bad guy that puts a spoke in the wheel for some
reason! There are only the characters with their dreams to be realized, and you really end up becoming attached to them,
while dealing with their everyday problems.
JIJI: "Okay, first: Don’t panic. Second: Don’t panic. And third: Did I mention not to panic?"
One of Miyazaki-sensei's earlier works and more suitable for young children, but still a delight to watch :)
I like Kiki's adventurous, bold and sort of happy-go-lucky personality. She is a fun person and I would love being
around her. She has grown up and matured after experiencing the witch version of something commonly known as a
writer's block. I'm sure everyone has gone through this at some point of their lives, be them writers,
painters, musicians, inventors, etc. Sometimes no matter how hard we try, we just can't feel satisfied with what we
do. We get fed up and lose our confidence. This movie teaches us when we encounter such obstacle, we should simply relax
and take a break. It's a simple lesson that all of us need to learn :D
This was my first Hayao Miyazaki film, so I think it's my favorite out of all his films. When I was sick my mom would play this movie for me every time. ^^ Though I did get rid of my VHS one, I managed to get it on DVD. It was kind of disappointed to re-watch the movie and have half of the voices taken out. All the VHS music was gone, and it just made the movie feel so bland to me. I think that when Disney released it for the DVD, they tried to keep it as close to the original Japanese version as possible. Even though I understand why they would do that, I just felt like my childhood was gone. I now realize I probably would've hated that movie if it wasn't for the extra music and dialogue they added in the VHS version.
adorable. this was his first works for me. it was quite adorable indeed. a little witch in a big world, well worth the watch, if you can look by the theme. some people are silly and are racist towards certain things.
