With long black hair and Sadako(from the Ring)-like features, Sawako Kuronuma is shunned by her fellow schoolmates, even when greeting them. False rumors about her power to curse and summon ghosts make for a lonely life for the plain and kin Awako. However unlike the rest, Shouta Kazehaya, the most popular boy in school, treats her with kindness. Gradually feelings of admiration and respect begin to evolve in a love story for the ages.

SaitoHajime101's Kimi ni Todoke Tv Review

Rated: 8

Oh the dramatics, let it end! Well, thank god I didn't feel that way. While some of it did indeed get somewhat overplayed at times, it's what this series was built around. The good thing though is they didn't make it a bad habit. While slice-of-life series are notorious for "mis-understandings", this series didn't play off of those and played more off the reality that really happens. Despite the naivety of Kuronuma, she has surprisingly fewer misunderstandings than characters like Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina. That's probably what makes this series better than the rest, for me.

Specifically on humor, you'll find enough of it. It isn't quite the slapstick humor but nor is it always so subtle.

The first season was almost pretty, but the second one... NERVE-WRACKING! I don't think a character as stupid, annoying and mindless as Sawako has ever been created in the history of Japanese animation! Yet the other characters are all so nice.. But how can she always misinterpret every word that someone says, blind to the evidence that even a blind would see, and build sand castles on it for days? One should have lived all his life at the North Pole without the slightest contact with a human being to end up with the communication problems she has, not even an angle of 179° is so obtuse!

SAWAKO KURONUMA: "When I told him my feelings, he understood. When I said I wasn’t lying, he believed me."

Kimi ni Todoke can be considered as a bit "cliché"; I mean, it wouldn't be the first time a story focuses on the lonely, misunderstood girl who likes this popular and kind boy, right? However, Kimi ni Todoke succeeds in making it fresh with Sawako and Kazehaya. It is of course a love story, but it is also the progression of Sawako as a person : she gradually opens herself to everyone, makes friends... in a word, she begins to live her life to the fullest.

I love this series. Its very sweet and full of emotions. I goes to show that you shouldnt judge people until you get to know them. Rumors can ruin everthing. Its a fantabulous shoujo. Sawako and Shota are so sweet together. I also love their friends. Its funny and I love how they also focus on other peoples relationsships. Like Ryuu and Chizuru's relationship development. Shows what all teenagers go through during high school. Rumors, crushes, confusion, heartbreaks. And what true friends are. I currently reading/collecting the mangas. I'm hoping for a season 3, seeing the manga is still going on. LOVE IT

Very romantic, funny, touching, and sweet. I like how Kazehaya is not "that popular boy" if you know what I mean. He's different from other popular male characters I came across in other anime. He "likes" Sawako for who she is and makes her feel good about herself, and she makes him feel the same way. Sawako also makes good friends in the series, and it makes the series even enjoyable to watch.

It's sweet. But not that overwhelming kind. It's about an innocent, shy girl who tries to portray her feelings properly to others, but because of her resemblance to the Sadako (from The Ring) she is isolated. There is, however, a young refreshing boy who tries to befriend her and who she, in turns, respects greatly. In this slice of life story, she creates new friendships, a new love, and a sense of belonging in her class. It's a lovely story.
