Cosmic Era 71. A war is under way between genetically enhanced Coordinators and unmodified Naturals. The Natural-dominated Earth Alliance, struggling to catch up with the Coordinators' superior technology, has secretly developed its own Gundam mobile suits at a neutral space colony. Through a twist of fate, a young Coordinator named Kira Yamato becomes the pilot of the Alliance's prototype Strike Gundam, and finds himself forced to fight his own people in order to protect his friends.

There are a few points that lower the quality of this series. First, certain scenes seem fake and artificial, and the way certain characters just 'happen' to be at the right place and at the right time for the right thing to happen becomes quite irritating at one point. Also, I've never been able to understand how did soldiers belonging to different factions manage to communicate through radio. I mean, it would seem logical for them to use separate channels, right? That didn't make sense. Some characters were characterized in detail, while others were not characterized at all, like the three pilots of the Earth Alliance's new units. I truly think there was more to them than those "Annihilate! Obliterate! Kill!" sort of lines. Same goes for Orb's pilots (the three girls).

It's a good show, but the melodrama and teen angst makes me want to drown myself. I'm not kidding. I do, I really do like the anime- but every time I see Kira, I want to slap the tears of angst off his face. Many parts of it are predictable (best friends, now on opposites sides of a war- what a twist!), but it's an anime that can hold your interest, despite the overwhelming angst of it all. There's interesting characters and the plot is pretty alright (but once again, it can be predictable), and in my opinion, it'll never be the best Gundam series.
singlemoon rated 7.75:Uh, I like Kira badly when I saw this series, but he's just a teenager and he did a lot of stupid things before he grown mature. Lots of angst moment and characters. But what I always look forward is the mecha battle, I go all 'ah yeah!' whenever the main Gundams in action. XD

Quite good on the whole. I've picked up a lot of inspiring quotes about war and peace in the series.
The artwork is fair, but not particularly beautiful.
The story is great, but does not make sense at some points. For example, Kira should have died when Athrun's Aegis
locked Strike in a death hug and exploded. But the next thing you know, Kira woke up with Lacus beside him, and the
explanation being "Lacus's teacher passed by and rescued him" is VERY unconvincing. Also, I have no idea what
exactly the SEED is after finishing the entire series -___-
Still, it's quite angsty and touching, and the mobile suits are really cool.
One more thing. I LOVE THE FIRST OP!!!
One of the first animes I've seen. I'm not a fan of mechas but this one is an exception. I like the story especially the coordinator and natural thing. I also love the characters and the soundtrack. The soundtrack is really amazing. That's why I was attracted to it. I remember the times when I was still very addicted to this. In my opinion, this is better than DESTINY.
