A period piece set in Kyoto during the twilight of the Edo period, Peacemaker Kurogane tells the story of a boy, Ichimura Tetsunosuke, who joins the Shinsengumi in order to avenge the deaths of his parents at the hands of an influential Choshu clansman, Yoshida Toshimaro. There, he learns that if he is to taste revenge, he will have to cast aside his humanity and become a demon in spirit; this is thus the tale of a boy forced by the circumstances of his time to grow up and embrace his destiny.

Peacemaker Kouragane is so unique that the show still is not exactly the same thing. It is it's own story, with it's own wonderfull characters you really care about. Even though it is based off a true story, it's non-genaric and a real page turner. I honestly didn't do my homework that night because of that book. I didn't put it down once, and I am sure if anyone reads it they will at least feel close to the same as I do. It is worth it to buy it. It is thirteen plus, but I think that anyone with an attention span could love this book. It does get violent at times, so if you are an action fan you will love it. It also has a good story line so no matter what genre you like, this book is for you. I realize that I am saying things over again, and I do apologize but this book is that good.
