Rurouni Kenshin is the entire deal. It is missing a little something, a bit in plot and music and animation, but together is something very and undeniably special. I have to say that this anime drew empathy, sympathy and compassion from me so often that I can't even remember every emotion it pulled from me. I used to dream about this series. I cannot say how profoundly I was touched, but I was touched — a lot of people were and are. And as I said, it is something special.
The best thing I can say about Rurouni Kenshin is that it is so well-rounded. Even if it is missing a little bit here and there, every element (plot, art and sound) was on equal levels, no one taking command over the other, a problem I find so often when watching anime.

Pretty awesome samurai themed series, I only wish the Enishi arc was animated though into a season. Loved the first OVA tracing back to Kenshin's past. I also share equal love for Kenshin's relationships with Tomoe and Kaoru, both bonds were endearing and beautiful. With Kenshin's bond with Kaoru, I believe that is the best that shounen romances have to offer and much better than overrated pairs like Inuyasha x Kagome. Kenshin and Kaoru's relationship is based on understanding, trust, and genuine, positive feelings. I overall like the dynamic of Kenshin's group better than Inuyasha's as well. So if you're looking for an entertaining period piece anime, Rurouni Kenshin is one of the best. The two seasons of the TV series, Tsuiokuhen, and even the movie are the good parts of the Kenshin anime. Don't even consider Reflection and Shin Kyoto-hen, they're plain bad. With all the classic anime revivals going on, it's disappointing an anime adaptation of the Jinchuu arc isn't part of it. I enjoyed the live-action movies, the 1st one is the best one for me because of the stand-out performance of legendary singer Koji Kikkawa as Jine Udo in his cold, threatening, intimidating, and blood-thirsty portrayal of the character. It's what led me to become a fan of his; I began to listen to his music and wow he is a great and talented singer, as well as an actor. His stage performances are impressive to watch. Takeru Satoh's performance as Kenshin is excellent and the best interpretation of the character in the main arc of the story.
The anime is quite good, though I wish they had left in the grittier tone of Watsuki's manga instead of toning it down, putting Kenshin in pink and adding the little girls to make the story more child friendly.
However, the epic Kyoto Arc makes up for that. It follows the manga almost seamlessly and leaves the viewer very satisfied.
It's a shame the Jinchuu Arc was never animated and the audience was stuck with a filler third season instead.
I watched this anime like over decades ago, still it continues to inspiring me until this day on.
I fell completely head over heels for Kenshin Himura, and that's the reason why I created an original character for
this series.
I think it's because Kenshin's there that I love the whole series. xD
Hiko Seijuro XIII, Hajime Saito and Aoshi Shinomori really make this series for me. Kenshin is funny and a good fighter at the snap of a finger, but it is really the supporting characters that make this an anime worth watching.
I do intend to finish the anime one of these days! I really do! I have loved every chapter from the manga, but I only watch the anime when I feel like I need something only Kenshin and his friends are able to give me. I'm in the middle of the Kyoto Arc right now, around episode 35 or 36 if i recall. Even if the animation is kind of old, the story and the caracters are still great and I believe that it's a must watch for every anime fan.
Love this series so much!!! It taught me values even though some episodes have fight scenes but I don't mind bcoz
Kenshin-sama is a really great swordsman and no one can match his skills!! ^^ (kenshin bias ^^)
And some episodes are funny! Its like all that you want to watch is in this series.. :D
Really love Kenshin!!! He's really really handsome!!! love him so much..!!! Though he died early in his age bcoz of
sickness.. *sobs* :'(
I don't mind if I had watch this a couple of times and even memorize the lines in some episodes, I wouldn't
get tired of it! ^_^
I have seen all of this series, read all the released manga, and seen all the OVAs. Kenshin is one great little samurai, but I really liked the stories of his past as a ruthless slaughterer a lot better. I counted off a point on this anime because the final villain looks really stupid with those tufts coming out of his bandages, I just can't get past it and he's in so many episodes at the end that I just got infuriated hahahha. My favorite character was the suave and cold Aoshi, but I was a lot younger when I watched this. I actually really liked the long dragged out fight episodes where they talked mostly until the last 5 minutes of the episode.
Amazing anime- it has its flaws, but it's certainly one of my favorites. After the Shishio Ark, the series goes in a direction that disinterests me, however everything before that? Pure magic. Shishio will forever be my favorite anime villain, on pure philosophy alone (sexy bandages come second). And Kenshin Himura is, believe it or not, the reason I began drawing anime in the first place. I used to record episodes of Rurouni Kenshin, pause a screen, and draw away. Certainly one of my best childhood moments. Rurouni Kenshin has excellent characters, wonderful fight sequences, and an interesting plot- however, Samurai X was much more of a masterpiece. It utilize raw emotion more efficiently and knew how to portray Kenshin's inner conflict and personal flaws better. Not to mention the animation style in comparison to Rurouni Kenshin is superior and more fluid. Neither should be missed, however- I highly recommend both.
Most of this review comes from reading the manga, but I have to say this is my favorite manga/anime of all time. It is very old, but has a lot of good merits. The manga is a very good combination of sword play, romance, comedy, and historic reference all rolled into one. Great read and or watch!
For best experience though, I would highly recommend the manga over the anime.
Ohoho, since I watched this anime like years ago, I have a hazy memory about my personal opinion regarding this series
at that time. But since I'm always in 'fangirl' mode whenever I saw Kenshin, I think I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed the plot, humor and the characters' attic. There's a lot of great characters in this anime,
and Watsuki usually 'give' them bad past/a past worth forgetting of. And I do remember every time Kenshin go
'Hitokiri' mode, I got goosebumps, brrr.
Another one that I love with a passion, but lost some points due to Emishi's arc beeing cut from the anime. The manga is the BEST I've ever read so far, I own it all too. Very good indeed. I don't own the dvds, but I have it recorded on VHS and have all soundtracks downloaded, gonna buy the originals as soon as the money allows. Oh, forgot to say that I own the Kenshin Kaden and the special issue about Yahiko.
A highly entertaining story about a wandering samurai that carries a tragic past. He now tries to better the world and defend people without having to resort to murder. A blend of action, comedy, drama, and historical tie-ins makes this series a fulfilling story that stands on its own.(Like many series, the manga certainly outweighs the anime. After the Tokyo arc and the Kyoto arc, they started throwing fillers. Unfortunately, they never really did get to animate the last arc.)
Love the second seasonXD Kenshin's journey to Kioto and duels there are just epic. I believe the third season was all in fillers, but its not like they were all bad. Remember laughing hardly on the episode when Sanosuke finding and treating a big bear-like dog. I guess it's my favourite episode!^_^ I've watched Kenshin as one of my first animes, so I didn't know what Shinsengumi was back then. Now when I realize the connections between members of Shinsengumi and Kenshin characters based on them, it's even greater show for me^_^
Really a great Anime :) You should watch it! Most of the characters are awesome and really good looking (especially Sozo Sagara and Kenshin's Master ;D And Sojiro has such a cute smile ._.), the story is also pretty cool and it never gets boring.
great cinemactic effect. taking a darker side of history turned into anime topic. characters ok. idea is good. sword skills based on historic figures but expanded through imagine. love those fighting scenes. songs are great. overall atmosphere of anime throughout consistent and right on spot.
