Sake Theme
Tagged under Alcohol, Japanese Terms.
A type of wine made through fermenting rice. Unlike grape wine, the fermentation
process of sake does not involve adding sugar, but converting the starch to sugars instead; in this aspect, the
production of sake is more similar to that of beer.
The word sake can also be used in relation to
other alcoholic drinks, while the actual alcoholic drink known in the Western world as sake is named
nihonshu (日本酒, "Japanese liquor"). In Japan, sake is labelled as seishu (清酒, "clear
liquor"), albeit the term is not used often in conversation.
In images, sake is most commonly
depicted as being savored from a small plate-like cup called a guinomi.
