At first the center of Kyoko's world, Shoutarou is now the bane of
her existence. Wanting to escape the life planned out by his parents — running the family hotel in Kyoto alongside a
"boring country girl" —, Shou runs away to Tokyo with Kyoko, his childhood friend. Using his charm and Kyoko's
unrequited feelings for him, Shou has her pay rent, cook and clean while he pursues his dream of becoming a singer. When
Kyoko finds out Shou's real opinion of her, Shou throws her out of the studio, issuing a challenge that motivates her to
join the entertainment world.
Although superficial when it comes to personal relationships, Shou has a
good ear for music and takes his work seriously. His ego, however, is so big that he often interprets sarcasm as earnest
praise. Shou's greatest rival is Ren Tsuruga, who doesn't even acknowledge
his existence past the point of being the reason why Kyoko is upset. Shou also chooses to shorten his real name and keep
it secret, preferring "Shou Fuwa" to the "uncool" Shoutarou; thus, he is greatly annoyed when Kyoko begins calling him
"Shoutarou" to emphasize the intense hatred she feels towards him.
