Amu Hinamori is a student at Seiyo Elementary where everyone thinks of her as super cool and stylish. While in reality she's nothing like that. She actually is a very shy girl who wishes to be able to show her true self and how she really feels. Then one morning after wishing to be able to show her true self, she finds three mysterious eggs lying on her bed. Each egg contains a "Guardian Chara". These magical creatures can give a human powers to change certain abilities. Along with the discovery she is then forced into joining the elite group called the guardians. With the help of her new friends she'll discover her true self is more amazing then she ever dreamed. But of course with great power comes great responsibility. Will Amu be able to decide who's good and who's bad, who's friend and who's foe?

The older I get, the more I relate to Amu and her struggle for a defined identity and path in life. I'm surprised that the show I loved mostly as a child has actually given me good advice for my life as an adult too. I think that's a testament to the writing of this series, the concept of trying to define yourself is almost universally relatable and timeless.

The character designs are also cute, Peach Pit are obviously very talented artists!

Shugo chara... I'd recommend it to ages under 15 or for those who love Tokyo Mew Mew, Mermaid Melody, and all girly transformation anime. I'm not a fan of magical girl series and this show is too girly and childish for my liking. I don't hate this show, I just did not enjoy watching this anime at all. The storyline isn't very interesting and I find most of the characters are boring. The animation, character designs, and scenery are good though. The characters' transformation scenes are also pleasant to look at.

i find this series pretty neet so far art wise its impressive so is sound quality (though the shoes hitting the gound and floor sound really doesent sound at all like it) in many ways this series reminds me of sailer moon and also tokyo new mew with also a relation to card capter sakura and well you all get the idea its another one of those series with the special group of kids having to compleate a special task like save the world or protect something but over all peach pit did do well with it (that little neko chera (Yoru) is so cute :3) if your interisted in a series like the ones i mentioned well this is sure not to dissappoint

Ikuto was the only reason I even tried this out and even watched this as far as I did. However its to girly for me and Amu is to much of a Mary Sue early in the series. Its like every guy in her age group likes her, I'm not joking. But later on in "Shugo Chara Doki" I believe she stops being as bad of a mary sue. But I still stopped not even halfway through Doki... I'm sorta neutral to this but its not really my type.. at all

Someone might say that this anime is too childish but I don't think so.
The best thing in this story is that it is very kind. Even "villains" are not villains at all, just some people with their own reasons and problems. And the main character, Amu, despite being a very young schoolgirl, shy, clumsy and having not much self confidence, is able to change everyone around her. Even enemies. Amu is not a Mary Sue or some other irritating girl. She is really good, loving and kind-hearted. She tries her best to become better in everything (studying, getting along with others etc) and as Amu's story goes on, other people also change alongside.
I wasn't bored at all while watching Shugo Chara, despite being a grown-up and almost forgetting what it means to be a little schoolgirl.
I think that we grown-ups need to watch stories like this one from time to time, they make us kinder and somehow more pure. ^^
And of course this anime is perfect for schoolchildren. ^^

It's a cute story about a young girl who has to cope with problems that constantly jump at her. If you are willing to watch this girl (mary sue =3=) deal with the problems, go ahead and watch it. Sometimes, Amu can get annoying, but most of the time, she's just a normal girl... not really xD (I only finished because of Ikuto! x3)

I loved "My Guardian Characters" anime its a bitt childish but still ( like CCS) I had lots of fun watching it :)
Amu, is a student at Seiyo Elementary. At first glance, her classmates refer to her as "cool and spicy" and rumors speculate about her personal life. However, her real personality is that of a very shy girl who has trouble showing her true personality. One night, Amu wishes for the courage to show her "would-be" self, and the next morning finds three brightly colored eggs! XD Four Guardian Characters: Miki, Ran, Su and Dia.Amu's life becomes much more complex as she struggles to deal with her "would-be selves" and the Seiyo Elementary's Guardians, who each have a Guardian Character of their own. Later on, they recruit Amu as the "Joker" to search for X Eggs and X Characters, the corrupted forms of people's dreams, so the Guardians can purify their dreams after the Embryo( the embryo is believed to grant any wish)!
My fav character after Amu ( LOVE YA GIRL YOU SO CUTEE) is Yaya and Kukai! Yaya is the Ace Chair she wants to be a baby again so cuuteee and Kukai is an upbeat and energetic boy how had Jack's Chair! BEST JACK EVER!
LOVE THIS KAAWAII ANIME!

I was quite taken back with the animation, rather detailed and accurate to the manga. Really cute but not fully candied out and with realistic(?) kind of characters. Humoorous and light hearted^^

When I watch Shugo Chara, I feel myself just like Amu,who cannot express her own feeling in front of people. And this made people do not know her true behavior and thought she is a 'cool and spice' girl.
Feel like another me acting inside anime.(^-^,)
Anyway,I'm enjoy in watching Shugo Chara.(Even though it looks a bit childish.)

Was very dorky yet fun. The oufits were quite strange. And the show was too long, in my opinion; they could have cut out tons of filler. And I am torn between thinking "Ah! She didn't end up with the guy I wanted her to!" and "Wait a minute, you're 12! What do you know about love?" But as long as I don't think about their ages, I find this show cute and enjoyable.

I'm not a fan of sparkling fantasy shoujo magic theme animes so I didn't like this much. I also think that this series is too long. I enjoyed some of the episodes but nonetheless it's not a type of anime I would repeat. I like the soundtrack, art and story but this anime is just not really my cup of tea.

I think this is a great manga !
Even If I find the story not so Original, the characters personnality are just so great that I forget that !
It's funny and Adorable, And well... If you haven't watch it, Look at Ikuto and you'll know why it's so popular (He is actually a Part of the success I think :D)

Ikuto-kun! <3
I love the series-- why? Here are my reasons: Awesome animation; Adorable charas; Wonderful story line; interesting characters; music and the perfect distribution of romance, supernatural, mahou, shoujo, school life--- which are my favorite genres. :)

Whatched mostly for lulz. I can only disect that it's a cute anime for little girls. But I'm not a little girl, so here's what I think;
Stupid.
All I see is a little pink-haired spazzy 11-year-old chick running around with her floating faries being stalked by this 17-year-old cat guy. (For some reason people seem to think these two would make an EXCELENT couple......You freaking perverts.) Oh yeah, and bad egg jokes. Ugh, the entire thing makes me want to do 50+ head-to-desks.
Why this thing has become so poular is beyond me.
