Tanabata (七夕) is the Japanese Star Festival originating from the legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, two lovers
seperated by the Milky Way who were only permitted to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.
The festival is held in celebration of their meeting and is held on various days between July and August, depending on
the region.
During the festival, people write their wishes on tanzaku papers and hang them from bamboo
branches.
