Makoto Konno is just your average energetic high school student. She likes to sleep in, arriving at school at the last possible moment, gets average grades in school, likes to play baseball with her two best friends Chiaki Mamiya and Kousuke Tsuda, complains about her little sister, and has no idea what she wants to do with her future. Everything about her life is pretty ordinary. Until one day, she discovered she can leap through time...

MapleRose's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Tv Review

If you like sci-fi, fantasy or adventure, then this movie is probably not for you. While it has time travel, that's not really the main focus of the story; time leaping acts more as a plot-device to develop the characters and the story. Although some parts of the time leap are explained, it's best if you don't question how it works (like what happens to the current time line when Makoto goes back) and just take it as it is, else you'll end up going in circles and get a headache. The story focuses more on the relationships and the characters than the logics of time travel and how it works, and that's what you should focus on as well.
However, that's not to say the movie is all mellow and slice-of-life. There's action, humour, romance in it as well.

Very nice. The main character is a girl who can travel through time, but this is not the usual sci-fic movie. It starts
focusing on frivolous problems of a high school girl daylife, but becomes very deep, dealing with the consequences of
the girl's decisions.
KAZUKO YOSHIYAMA: "He said he would definitely return one day. Though I didn't plan on waiting for him. And so much
time has passed. It didn't last long. A blink of an eye. But, Makoto... you're not like me, right? If someone were late
to meet you... wouldn't you run out to meet him?"
This is a very sweet, emotional, and at the same time fascinating story. Excellent backgrounds by Makoto Shinkai and simple graphics of characters (but it does not upset me, because their movements were very well of course). I'll be honest - my heart sank a pair of points (this is a sign of how good anime for me). Given that the anime is based on the story - I love how delicate it is marked in the anime

I didn't expect it to be so good when I started watching it.
It leaves me with slight depression in minutes before I can finally smile at the end. It's a heartwarming story, and I
even cried at some of the part. I love the friendship(at least, at first) between Makoto, Chiaki and Tsuda. The ending
was a bit unexpected but it's the best I guess.
Overall, it got good presentation and plot. I'm truly lucky for having the chance to watch it. :)
I thought this movie was pretty good. ^^ It's been awhile since I've watched it, but I'll try to remember the most of it. This movie is pretty slow, so you'll have to wait and give it a chance before you drop it. The movie was almost plotless the entire time. It was kind of a "what would you do with time traveling powers" and you kind of just had to relate with the main character and what she did. Of course, this magical power doesn't last forever, and the main character wasted all of her jumps just because she didn't want to deal with a relationship problem head-on. The ending was really sad too! I remember sitting on my futon watching the ending happen and I was seriously pissed. It's just not the ending you want, so that would make anyone mad. It's really not that bad though, if you can take the slow movies and I don't know, relate to the characters more, you'd probably love this movie.
AnGeeChan rated 9.25:Gorgeous... May call it a japanese Butterfly Effect, but way better... Crying a lot. Can recommend to everyone. The plot is just awesome, needed to watch again so I could understand everything and addicionally notice more. I love Oku Hanako songs used in the movie, they fit perfectly. Very amazing movie, I'm really glad I found it.
