Joffrey Baratheon Character

Joffrey is the oldest child of King Robert Baratheon and Queen Cersei Lannister. He is crowned after his father is assassinated, but is soon overwhelmed by both the intricacies of ruling a kingdom, and his own violent desires. Joffrey has pronounced sadistic and narcissistic traits, often enjoying the suffering of others and being consumed by rage whenever he is defied (especially by his uncle, Tyrion). He takes advantage of Sansa Stark's feelings for him, who refuses to admit his darker nature even after Joffrey fails to uphold the image of a gallant and kind knight. The only ones who appear capable of holding his whims in check are his mother and, later, Margaery Tyrell.
