I prefer the Katsugeki series by ufotable more than Hanamaru because I like the structure of Katsugeki with the overall flow of the story, how the characters are animated, that it's engaging with the action and plot, having a limited amount of characters from the game makes it better to connect with them, the beautiful songs and music, and the overall direction of the series. Also, I like how there is the actual presence and interaction of the Touken Danshi's master Saniwa and loved the heartfelt story of the members of the second unit with their camaraderie, also the feelings of Izuminokami no Kanesada and Kunihiro Horikawa share for their former master Toshizo Hijikata and Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki for Ryoma Sakamoto and how they are challenged in terms of their loyalties to protecting the flow of history as how it happened in reality, their duties as Touken Danshi, to their desire to protect their respective former master. Hanamaru is just too random, mundane, and not enjoyable. The 2nd cour could've spent time with Yasusada when he was on his travels. Also, I dislike the character designs for the actual show.
