Manga: With a long story line, the manga starts off silly and fully taking advantage of how easy it is to parody sentai shows, but then moves into a far more serious story, and the emphasis moves away from the Shinesman crew to the struggles of Prince Hope. The story has several dark turns, including various revenge motivations by several members of the royal family (which includes royals from countries that Hope's father conquered) and Hope's isolation from anyone he tries to care for, as well as the fractious friendship/rivalry between himself and Matsumoto/Shinesman Red. If you like long, involved story lines, then Shinesman is for you, as long as you can get past the camp in the first few volumes. If you just want to see monsters getting beat up, this is not the series for you.

Quite an interesting take for an anime with the character names tied to their seiyuu, but the series could've been more enjoyable if it was at least a 6-episode OVA. At times, depending on a series, I feel for these OVA's that are two episodes long are too short to develop the story especially if it has potential to be a fun series.
