A successful Japanese pop group with around 88 members.
Similar to Morning Musume, members periodically graduate and are replaced by newcomers.
The group is divided into five teams: Team A (more info),
Team K (more info), Team B (more info), Team 4 (more info) and Team Kaigai (more info). Team 8 is considered to be an unofficial sister group. Team Kenkyuusei ("Research Students") is another
unofficial team, dedicated to trainees.
AKB48's sister groups are SKE48, NMB48, HKT48,
JKT48, TPE48, SNH48 and SDN48 (disbanded
in 2012).
The idol group Nogizaka46 was created specifically to rival AKB48.
